Greg Allen Morgoglione: News

CD Update - January 13, 2006

Ian Gilliam came in yesterday to add some awesome Stratocaster sounds to the songs - he seemed to have the most fun with One of My Songs, and did some wonderful work across all of the songs.

We need to bring in the ladies for some backing vocals, and Jeff Romano will add some harmonica bits, and we'll be ready to mix and master!!

Hey check us out on Music Places dot com - www.MusicPlaces.com/Greg_Allen. A very cool website for indie musicians - I like their talking hostess!

Peace...

It's a Wonderful Life - December 18, 2005

Took my girlfriend to see the classic film last night after a volunteer banquet held by the UVa Children's Medical Center. I play music there thru my SongSharing organization.

This morning we buried one of her dogs. (Photo link below) Patch was a bluetick hound she rescued from a trap in the woods. He was her first agility dog, too. She apparently turned some heads when she was able to get an old hound-dog to stay focused on an agility course.

What a sad event during the holidays. I am going out to put some little trees on the grave, with lights, and hang a stocking above his grave. Last night I was playing guitar when we got home, and I sang Dave Carter's classic "When I Go" for Patch - good timing I reckon... He howled alot thru the night...

If you want to drop an e-mail to Lynn, hit me at greg at grasping at laws dot net and I will forward them to her. We're gonna miss the old boy, and it's going to hit her very hard this week I am sure. She's one of the best friend's a dog could ever hope for... :^)

Best wishes to you all - folk up the holidays!

Greg

Christmas Show - December 9, 2005

Festival of Lights - December 8, 2005

Wow - what a great night we had last night at the Lewis-Ginter Botanical Garden. We played in the North Wing Conservatory, where they have a room full of poinsettia, a huge decorated holiday tree, and a variety of tropical and desert plants. We were surrounded by palms, one of which had this great pineapple on it - looked pretty close to pickin' to me...

If you are in the Richmond area and have not been to the Festival of Lights, take some time to get over there this holiday season.
We'll be playing again on Wednesday December 21st at 7:00 pm, same location.

Hope to see you there!

CD Update - December 7, 2005

We had a great session with drummer Nate Brown last night for the upcoming EP I am working on. We've got Bud Bryant coming in on Friday for some bass guitar work, then Charlie Bell on pedal steel next week. Ian Gilliam will add guitar, and perhaps a bit of keyboards from a yet unconfirmed but well known songwriter.

The songs are sounding better every session - I've decided to stop listening to updates for a week or so, and see how it sounds after we get Bud & Charlie on there.

Going to Richmond tonight to play at Lewis-Ginter Festival of Lights. The show begins at 7 - we'll do a set before 9 p.m. - I think one other duo is sharing the night with us.

Best to all of you,

Greg

what's up - December 3, 2005

Greetings,

A big welcome to all of the new visitors to the site - we have had a flurry of interest from Sweden, Finland, France, the Netherlands and Seychelles. Actually we have been getting visits from Seychelles for many months now.

I'm working on recording more of my original music these days. Currently working on a project that seems to lend itself to the "country" sound, loosely speaking. To that end we are bringing local country talent into the studio to help round out the sound and feel of the songs.

I'm very excited about this new swing in direction for my songs. I have never really envisioned a specific genre for my songs, and frankly the idea of genre is completely confusing to me. Having tried to find my way into several with little success, I created my own, and we are the only ones in it, and that's genre enough for me. That's the "eclectoplasmacoustic folk'n rock" bit - my personal, exclusive genre. Since I came up with that I get to ignore the genre question...

If I have a life focus of late it is to "live the lyrics". I am so underwhelmed by the musicians I know that write wonderful songs about humanity and compassion and understanding, but who have little if any time to share their music with audiences that would truly appreciate it.

Looking into the "country" avenue at this point is intriguing to me. I have been listening to a couple local stations recently and am very struck by the straightforward way in which country songs choose and deal with their topics. I also get a kick out of some of the topics they choose... ;^)

So I'm intrigued and excited and looking forward to how this project pans out. I think I'll get some airplay, and hopefully get a little notice as a songwriter and maybe even some concert opportunities. I'm sure we'll turn a few heads, just not sure which way...

Jeff Romano from Greenwood Studio is a blast to work with - studio time has been an engaging education, and my performance and playing skills are the better for it. The songs are going in some directions I would not have anticipated, but am very excited about.

The dogs are fine - we have 7.

Peace,

Greg Allen

Cool Post - October 31, 2005

http://www.blueridgeoutdoors.com/
If you go to that link, and scroll down, you will see orange letters that say 2005 BRO BURN RESULTS.

If you click that link and scroll down a bit, you will see a Thank You to Grasping At Laws, and some lyrics I wrote for the outdoor trail run a few weeks ago.

The lyrics are sung to the tune of I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor - and the re-title is called "I Run to Survive".

I've reprinted them below as well.

Please visit Gloria Gaynor's website at www.GloriaGaynor.com. and thank her for the timeless song!!

"I Run to Survive"
At first I was afraid. I was petrified. Thinking I could never run without you by my side.
But I spent many days and nights just thinking how you train so wrong. I grew strong
I would run and run and run.

And so you're back from another race. I just walked in here to find you with that tired look upon your face.
So I went and changed my socks, found some shoes and shorts a tee
And I went to run without you, you’re not gonna run with me.

Oh now go. Run out the door. You ran around now. I won’t run with you no more.
Weren't you the one who tried to cool my burning fire? Did you think I'd slow down?
Just veg out and die?

Oh not I. I run to survive. When I’m burning down the trail I know that I am full alive.
I've got all those trails to run. Gotta feel that blue ridge burn. I will survive. I run to survive.

It took all the strength I had just to climb that hill. Training hard to raise the pace, I push beyond my will.
And I ran oh so many miles - many mountains, trails and ruts - twist, climb and turn…
Just to feel that blue ridge burn.

And you will see me run like someone new. If you can keep up with me that is, I’m not slowing down for you.
And so you think you can run by, you think you’re gonna outrun me. But I’ll be showered, chilling, eating fruit
Before you make the halfway tree.

Now go.

CD - October 30, 2005

The new cd is coming along just fine - had Julie Goldman in for vocals last week, and she comes in again this week.
It's shaping up nicely, and we hopefully will accelerate our pace of production beginning in November.

I'll also begin workin on recording more of my entire catalog, in order to release singles and cd's. More on that later...

Oh - picked up a new track motorcycle today - a race-prepped GSXR600... :^)

Peace,

Greg

The eaTV broadcast was a huge success! We performed a 5 song set that went like this:
contucius: on shoes - side by side - yugen - story of our lies - life (and how not to live it)

It seems likely that Side by Side will make it into the eaTV 24/7 rotation. For now, you can go to www.sonicbids.com/graspingatlaws and visit the video page to see the Side by Side video (with some enhancement).

The crew had us stick around and tape a number of promo spots for them to use - both on eaTV and Engage Internet Radio. Our music will also be in rotation on Engage...

update 22 july '05 - July 22, 2005

shaved me head today - it's hot here... humid, y'know. think i'll keep it that way a few weeks anyway.

mailed more cd's off today to radio stations. Am getting excellent responses from those who have linked to our song samples - they want our cd's for airplay, and more of them want to offer digital download and cd sales. Nice touch, having all these folks hustling to sell our music. I feel very fortunate, and thankful for that.

Worked on the site some more - lengthened some song clips - enjoy!

I'm calling it a day very shortly - dinner and sam adams are urging me to the kitchen table...

peace,

greg

update 07-21-2005 - July 21, 2005

added some new song clips today - almost everything from the 01 cd is on here now...

I also added a preview of the upcoming cd that is in progress at Greenwood Studios near Charlottesville.

We recorded the posted version of Rub'er the Wrong Way at Milestone Studios in Ruckersville, with our friend Sal Milione. Awesome job - we did the whole demo in one day, ten hours to be exact. That includes recording, mixing, mastering. NO overdubs - live, straight to tape. 6 songs. I'm impressed, anyway...

Have sent out a dozen or more copies of '01 to radio and internet radio stations, will keep you posted on upcoming airplay / interviews.

That's all - calling it a day!

Peace,

Greg

July 16, 2005 update - July 16, 2005

Updating the website, adding some html capability to spruce it up just a bit.

Sent CD's off today to several internet radio sites that want the 01 cd for airplay. Evolving Artist will be putting us on Engage Internet Radio soon (as well as our August 22 live to internet TV broadcast on eaTV!). We should be getting some airplay already on Indie Artist Radio - they have a link to request music, and you should soon find us in the "G" section... they got our website link up today!!

Radio Crystal Blue and OutboundMusic dot com are the other two that will soon have our music in rotation. OutboundMusic will be selling CD's and doing some downloads also I think.

CD Baby should have 01 for sale any day now, and we'll get digital downloads going with them as well, which will put them out thru several download sources.

I also sent off my papers for California Superbike School at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama in September. Working on a tryout to be an instructor with them - anyway, I should find some gigs down that way while I'm there - hit me with an email if you have any leads for places in the Birmingham / Leeds area. (Hey, leads for Leeds... :^)
Long day push, push, pushing our music and getting back some great responses. We hope you like it...

All for now.

Best,

Greg

Greetings... - July 14, 2005

It's a great time to be getting the band online as we move forward with touring and promotional plans.

We've re-issued the "01" cd and have it on sale at cdbaby, and should have digital downloading soon.

We are working on a new cd with Jeff Romano of Greenwood Studios near Charlottesville. Helping Buster and I out will be Jeff Romano, Tom Proutt, Julie Goldman and likely a few more guests who have contributed their time and talents to SongSharing. The CD will sell to benefit SongSharing, and further our mission of Making Music More Accessible in the community. see www.SongSharing.org for more info

We're headed to Southbridge, MA to do a live Internet TV broadcast in August '05 - tentatively set for the 22nd. ...and working on a gig near Charles Town, WV - more on that as it comes together...

More later.

Best to you all,

Greg and Granville
